About the doctor
Board Certified in Internal Medicine, with training across conventional, integrative, and functional medicine — and more than 15 years caring for people with complex chronic illness.
Board Certified in Internal Medicine · Integrative & Functional Medicine
Dr. Kanani began at the University of California, Berkeley, earning a degree in Molecular Biology and Neuroscience, then studied medicine at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York, earning his doctorate in 2007. He completed a three-year residency in Internal Medicine at Montefiore Medical Center in the Bronx — an academic center focused on care for the underserved.
Returning to Northern California, he worked in primary care and as a hospitalist before realizing he could help people heal from chronic illness far more effectively with a holistic approach. He began studying Functional Medicine through the Institute for Functional Medicine and spent two years working under Dr. Isaac Eliaz, a pioneer in Integrative Oncology. From 2017 to 2022 he practiced at the Sutter Institute for Health & Healing alongside an interdisciplinary team of acupuncturists, chiropractors, health coaches, and nutritionists.
Today, in private practice, he offers a wider array of services — combining functional-medicine testing, IV nutritional therapies, and his conventional training into an approach that is truly integrative, built around each patient's genetics, needs, lifestyle, and story.
“Healing becomes a journey of discovery and return to wholeness.”
